The Spirit Lives on
by Gwen Ball of Trinity Church
With her spire reaching tall
She still welcomes us all;
But blue doors firmly closed
By that edict imposed
Mean we can’t go inside
And our time we must bide.
But Church isn’t gone
The Spirit lives on .
The service is still hosted
It’s On line - or posted;
And to help with our cares
Dan emails us prayers;
WhatsApp shares our news
Helps chase away blues
So the church isn’t gone
The Spirit lives on.
We call one another
We care for each other
Check who’s well who’s not,
Who’s happy who’s fraught.
We stop and we pray
At noon time each day
So the Church isn’t gone
The Spirit lives on.
We all do our part
We pray from the heart;
Remember those fallen
Thank those who’ve the calling
Providing protection
And fighting infection.
The Church isn’t gone
The Spirit lives on
We all contemplate
When we’ll next congregate
For Easter was nigh
When we last bid goodbye
And more weeks may still pass
Before we can mass
But the Church isn’t gone
The Spirit lives on.
It isn’t for ever
We will be together
We will reunite
At the end of this plight
Our praises we’ll bring
And the organ will sing
For the Church isn’t gone
The Spirit lives on
But the risk still remains
So we all must take pains
To adopt a new way
To keep danger at bay.
And it will feel quite strange
Things will need to change
But the Church isn’t gone
The Spirit lives on
Meanwhile all take heart
That although we’re apart
In His eyes we’re together
For now and forever
And we don’t need to gather
To worship the Father
For the Spirit lives on
The Church isn’t gone
So her spire may look down
And may frown on the Town
With her doors firmly closed
By that edict imposed:
Yet we are contented
Our Faith isn’t dented
And the Church isn’t gone
For the Spirit is strong .
