Edith Fildes - Age 101 |
It is with great sadness that I report the death of Edith Fildes at the age of 101; she passed away peacefully in her sleep at Widnes Care Home on April 20th. Mrs Fildes was a fondly remembered congregation member at St. Luke’s, where both she and her late husband Dudley were hugely involved not only in church life but also in building and restoration projects. Many will remember the beautiful Fund Raising Garden Parties held in the garden of their home on Coroners Lane that she so graciously hosted. |
She was the ‘Mary Berry’ of her time, baking amongst other things the most amazing pavolas piled high with fruit.
Others will remember her fondly as their English teacher at Wade Deacon Grammar School; here she instilled a love of literature and the rules of English grammar into her pupils.
Edith never lost her interest in St. Luke’s Church; she regularly received Home Communion, kept up her annual subscription for the Parish Review and was visited by parishioners who kept her informed of all the news and updated her on the latest building projects.
As a church family, we send our deepest sympathy to Judith and Michael and their families. Their mum was a gracious, inspirational lady and she will be sorely missed.
