On Good Friday morning families gathered to share an egg-smashingly messy Easter Celebration.  It was very egg-citing as our Toddler Church families joined us too!

We started by listening to the Easter Story told as we all walked round church (getting a little eggs-ercise), we waved palm leaves and palm crosses and shouted ‘Hosanna!’ as we paraded round the church.  And then everyone listened as the story continued and one of the children had their feet washed (good job they weren’t smelly!) just like Jesus washed the disciples feet.

Then we shared bread together as we heard about the meal Jesus shared with his disciples and thought about the significance of what happened when during the meal Jesus broke bread, blessed it and said,

"Take this and eat it, for this is my body, which I am giving for you”.

We moved outside of the church and into the sunshine to pray as we heard all about Jesus praying to God asking for help in the Garden of Gethsemane and when we returned inside we puzzled over what to do with Jesus just like Pilate did before we marched up the central isle of the church to the cross were we heard about how Jesus was crucified with nails hammered through his hands.  We were sad and silent for a moment as we thought about Jesus dying for us on the cross.

And finally we moved into the Bold Chapel were we imagined we were inside the empty tomb and celebrated as Jesus had risen – we were all egg-static!

Then the fun began…. messy craft time!

There were palm leaves to weave, water to splash in, nails to hammer, egg shells full of paint to throw, Easter cards to make and tomb biscuits to construct (and eat!).  And when we’d all finished there was still time left to eat cakes and hot cross buns together.
